Sun Araw (2)

Mercredi, mars 10th, 2010

From chocolate bobka : “Ray just sent me this recap of the Sun Araw show at Coco 66 this past Sunday, which was, to say the least, some really HEAVY shit. All night. (Aside: Bigs up to Upstairs CDR, the KGB Man himself, and DJ Bryce (?) who was in the front bar spinning shit all slo’d out and drawly-like.) OPN killed a set too, but thats a whole different story. Sun Araw came in from Cali the night before, after getting stuck in LA because of weather, Airline-delays, etc in NYC. Dude took the red-eye and landed at LGA at 9:30AM Sunday Morning, days after his supposed arrival. Yet somehow, despite delays, Sun Araw instantly cast a mega-aura over the greater Greenpoint area. The sky got all neon green. Except the ooz sky wasn’t poisonious, it was just glowing mist. Like tie-dyed fog. Everything was real fresh. Super zones. (RC on a different plane of existence with this one. Right on.)”

enfer boreal

Mardi, mars 9th, 2010

(…) On this unfortunately limited morsel, Primault takes the warm and gushy drone approach often squandered by lesser tacklers of texture and infuses it with his own distinct organicism. Where many opt for clear and rich synthesizer squelching, his is a mellow and moist drone that slips inside the earlobes with ease despite the work’s deeply detailed nature. (…)

second family band

Samedi, mars 6th, 2010

By 2002, many volk had gathered ’round and beat the bounds within the walls and yards of the Tomb. Many musical stories were born, such as The Davenport Family, The Grass Magic, The Gygax Ensemble, Thee Botanical Shrine Band, Zodiac Mountain, All Do Gather, Organon, Candiru, The Crowned and Conquering Children, A Mercury Ensemble, Orthodox Blood Orchestra, The Midwestern Mudslide Hootenanny and Free Pentecostal Family Jams, Outlet, Jesus Balls, Mirror Man and th’ Oshun Oxtra, as well as dozens of unnamed gatherings. These events have resulted in hundreds of hours of recorded musik and the tapes continue to pile up as most of us still live and work and play together. So now we have christened the advent of the SECOND FAMILY BAND, our new and unified banner for all of these our ancient (and future) rites.

matomeri

Mardi, février 23rd, 2010

The halfhead-honcho of Ikuisuus, Timo, having real special time with his friends in an old slaughterhouse, jamming together & melting their brains away. Arctic freak-out improv psychedelia, droning dark-water diving, ancient stories from the age of dragons… adventures and heavy sound.
Hear this, the new wave of the finnish whatever!

elm

Lundi, février 1st, 2010

Elm is the name of Porras’ solo creations. His music retains the megasonics of Barn Owl, but finds his tutelage deep in the heart of the desert. “Nemcatacoa” is a lonesome, epic journey. Named after one of the deities of his Colombian heritage, his latest full-length (and first large-scale solo release) feels huge and endless. Walls of guitars shatter beneath the weight of the booming percussion blasts that find their way from the caves into the light. An acoustic guitar is mournfully plucked, the beginning of a procession of the dead. “Nemcatacoa” is an album begging for somebody, anybody to find and embrace.
